Dunedain (Races Help)
The Dúnedain (Dúnadan, singular) are descendants of the Numenoreans,
Men who ruled the land long ago, but their numbers have dwindled. In
earlier ages, they were nobles and kings and their armies were legend.
Now, their blood is thin and their numbers are scattered. The Dúnedain
dwelling in the north largely live as Rangers in the wilds and rumors say
that they secretly protect the weaker races by guarding the forests and
roads. The Dúnedain in the south, on the other hand, still openly hold
the lands of Gondor. Although they cling to the remnants of their former
might, they suffer constant war which saps their strength and makes their
future uncertain. The Dúnedain are a tall and noble race, paragons of
their kind, and seem to have an inner strength beyond what ordinary Men
possess. Being part of the Council of Elrond, they are often committed
to Sauron's defeat and the resurrection of their glory days.
Dúnedain language varies depending on the roots of the speaker. Most
speak Westron, but Adunaic can be found in pockets of Gondor, while the
Rangers of the North and some Gondorian noble lines often speak Sindarin.
