Edain (Races Help)
'Edain' is the elvish word for Men. They entered Middle-earth in
the First Age and split into different branches. Generally speaking, the
Edain are considered the 'common' breed of Men. The Edain of today are
widespread and each Adan (singular of 'Edain') collective varies in both
appearance and motive by their location more than anything else.
The Big Folk of Bree, the Lake-men of Esgaroth, the Woodsmen of
Mirkwood, and the near-mythical Beornings of the Carrock are all counted
among the Edain, as are many of Gondor's commoners. Thus while they
might not be as large of stature as their Dunedain cousins or skilled in
battle as the Eorlings of Rohan, they remain an important, if scattered,
bulk of the Free Races. Despite not being present at the Council of
Elrond, they tend to be friends of their neighbors and enemies of Sauron.
The Edain, regardless of where they are found, speak the common
tongue known as Westron. This is the same common speech understood and
used by all the Free Races in their travels.
