Obelisk race (Roleplaying/Games Help)
The Obelisk Race is a combination of a footrace, trivia session and
scavenger hunt, designed by Osse to help keep our players entertained.
Overview
Basically, the game works like this:
- A number of obelisk objects are placed in rooms throughout Arda.
- Each obelisk when touched gives a clue as to where to find the next one.
- The first clue is given via mud-wide echo or on the OOC comm. The first
person to find all obelisks, in order, WINS.
Details
- Clues -
The clues are generally in the form of riddles and hints. No direct
paths are given, as that would kinda ruin the point. Figuring out
the clues will require a decent level of knowledge both of Arda, and
of Tolkien's works (LoTR in particular). If you need a clue repeated,
you can go back to that obelisk and touch it again.
- Obelisk Locations -
The locations of the obelisks will vary from game to game. Sometimes
they will be in East Arda only, so that both ERs and FRs can join in.
Sometimes West Arda will also be used, making that game "FR Only".
Obelisks will never be placed (on purpose) in areas that only one
person can get to per reset (such as inside a quest), or in deathtrap
areas. However, they may be placed in the midst of auto-attacking
monsters, so care and proper equipment is advised.
- Game Commands -
When you find an obelisk 'touch' it. If it is the right one in order,
you will get the next clue. If it is not the one you should be
touching, it will make that clear.
- Prizes -
Various prizes will usually be offered to the top 3 finishers of
any game. Prizes may range from novelty items to gold to "other".
NO PRIZES ARE EVER GUARANTEED, however.
- Frequency -
Games will be held "on occasion", which pretty much means "whenever
Osse feels like it, or another ainu bugs him enough to let them run
one."
FAQ
Q: I can't find the obelisk, what do I do!?
Additional hints will generally be given after a while.
Q: Can I comm the location of each obelisk as I find it?
No, if you do Osse will gate you to Shelob. Keep the locations to
yourself, in the name of good sportsmanship.
Q: Could Osse possibly be any cooler?
Q: The obelisks are objects, right? I don't have to search the room
for them?
Correct. The obelisks will show up as a regular object in the room
in the form of "A strange, glowing obelisk".
Q: Why did you pick such a phallic object?
