Panniers (Objects Help)
Panniers are a set of two large baskets that can be placed on a mount
to turn it into a pack animal. Apart from panniers, on The Two Towers you
may use other 'mount packs', such as saddle bags or even saddles that have
a little storage space. However, since panniers are the biggest, they are
the most popular.
Mount packs in general are obtainable through various quests around
Arda; while there is just one place where one can get panniers, the other
types of packs may be easier to obtain. Once you get ahold on one, you
may put it on your mount by typing 'pack <mount name>'. While on the
mount, you will not see the mount pack in the room, but you can operate
it just as if it was a container on the ground - you may get and put
items from and into it. When you want to retrieve your mount pack again,
just 'unpack <mount>'.
Since mounts, and with them panniers, cannot enter shops, you will
find that the 'packtag' command comes in handy when you want to sell loot
from your panniers.
In addition, you should be aware of the following facts about packed
mounts:
- You cannot ride a mount that has panniers on its back. You may,
however, ride a mount that is 'packed' with a saddle or saddle bags.
- Packed mounts cannot enter water.
- Packed mounts can be stabled in stables, as long as the pack is empty.
- Packed mounts can be harnessed to wagons.
