Playtesting (Rules and Policies)
The Two Towers is an ever-expanding MUD. To help us ensure the quality
of new additions, we have a playtesting system in place: there is a group
of players who have special privileges and are allowed to playtest.
Any experienced player (that is, of at least 5 days of character age)
can apply to be playtester with the 'playtest apply' command. Their
application will then be reviewed by one of the Powers and approved or
denied. Note that this process may sometimes take a long time, as there
are times that we feel we have enough playtesters or there is simply
nothing very important pending testing; in such cases we just do not
'process' the applications.
Apart from the mandatory age requirement, these are the things we
consider while reviewing playtester applications:
- The quality of the application itself. Take your time when answering
the application questions; the effort you put towards the application
might just be interpreted as your dedication to playtesting.
- Your law history. Players with a history of warnings, commbans or
other disciplinary measures will find their chances of being approved
much lower than others.
- Your past playtester performance. If you used to be a playtester
before, we might base your re-approval on how well you performed in
the past.
- Your submitted reports history. If you were an active 'tester' of
existing MUD areas through submitted typo, bug and idea reports (that
were actually fixed and not rejected) your chances of becoming a
playtester will increase greatly.
Once your application is approved, you will receive a welcome MUD mail
with instructions on how to proceed. You should also read 'help playtest rules' and 'help playtest' for more details. Then, you should use the
'ptnews' command to read the playtester news board and get yourself up to
date and ready to start testing new changes and areas.
