These are the options and settings that players who use screen
readers often use to improve their experience.
Enable the 'accessibility' setting. Either enter the command
'set accessibility on' or use the 'settings' command and choose the
visually impaired option under Display settings.
Set brief combat on, to hide messages from combat you are not involved
in. Use the 'settings' command and choose the appropriate option under
Combat settings. This will also hide the combat messages of party
members, and make it much easier for your screenreader to keep up with
the combat that affects you.
Set brief mode on using the 'brief on' command. This will cause
only short room descriptions and exits to be displayed when you move
from room to room. You can always use the 'look' command to view the
full description, or you can turn verbose mode back on with 'brief off'.
With the 'accessibility' setting turned on, use the 'map' command
when exploring wilderness areas, to get a plain-text description of
what is around you.
Use the 'exits' command to get a quick list of what exits can be
used in your current room, without room description spam. A short
description of the room linked to in the exit will be given, if it
is an exit you could normally 'look' or 'glance' through.
Don't be shy of asking for help on the newbie comm, using the right
bracket symbol ] to send your message.
There are some other settings in the menu accessed via the 'settings'
command which can reduce the amount of messaging spam you receive. Some
of them will have more of an effect later in the game. Review the options
available under the Combat, Command and Display sections to explore what
is available.
There are many ways to customize your prompt in the game to display
information you may find useful. Read 'help prompt' to learn more.
