Bows (Objects Help)
You know what a bow is. A big curved stick with a string attached that
a person shoots arrows from. This is how bows work here at The Two Towers:
- You can only target something in the room with you.
- You must have a bow on you.
- You must have arrows readily at hand (whether in your hands, in a
quiver, or on the ground; it doesn't matter where).
- You must 'nock' an arrow.
- If you decide not to use it, you can 'unnock' the arrow.
- You then 'draw' your bow.
- Finally, you 'shoot' your target.
- If you want to use one type of arrow over another, you should
'select' your preferred type, as in 'select mallorn arrow'.
If you have the "autoshoot" setting set (which is the default), you
will automatically perform the last 3 actions while in combat, one each
round of combat. With a little bit of archery skill, you have a chance
to perform the actions more rapidly than one per round.
With the "bowmessages" setting set to "off", you will no longer see
your own nock and draw messages in normal combat. You will, however,
still see those messages when manually typing "nock" and "draw".
The bow is the primary weapon for one of the archer profession. As
well as shooting faster, they have an ability that allows them to shoot
more than one arrow at a time.
While bows do not degrade from use as regular weapons do (they will
always be in excellent condition), they may break when used too much or
if you decide to use your bow like a cudgel (yes, you can do that!). If
it is the string that broke, you may fix it with the "restring" command;
if it is the bow itself, you will have to "mend" it at a weaponsmith's
workshop.
With the "nock" command you may specify any type of arrow, such as
"nock black arrow", and an arrow of that description will be looked for
in all of your quivers. You can also explicitly name a quiver as in
"nock arrow from quiver 2". When you are in combat and try to nock an
arrow despite having one nocked already (through the "autoshoot"), your
choosen arrow will be saved as the next one to use.
If you want your nock choice for your bow to be permanent, you
should use the "select" command to note your preference, such as
"select black arrow". To clear the preference, just "select any". If
you are out of your selected choice, any other arrow in your inventory/
quiver will be nocked instead.
