Civilian (Professions Help)
While many heroes of Middle-earth have shown great skill with the
sword or the bow, the bulk of Arda's population is cut from less combative
cloth. These individuals are laborers, craftsmen, and nobility striving
to live a more secure or profitable life in a time of war. Civilians have
no innate combat skills; this handicap is partially offset by their
flexibility in choosing areas to train in. Civilians may in fact learn
twice as many secondary skills as those who follow more rigid professional
paths (see 'help skills2').
As a result of focusing less on warfare, the civilian has more time to
master trades: in other words, the making of things. As such, it is not
uncommon to find civilians using their skills to cook hearty meals, concoct
fantastic potions, or sew sturdy clothing (see 'help tradeskills about').
Indeed, without the crafts and talents of the dedicated civilian, the
quality of life in Middle-earth would be very poor for any who appreciate
the comforts of civilization.
