Kills (Combat Help)
Killing NPCs is a large part of this game, but there are sometimes
consequences for killing certain NPCs:
- Towns and cities take offense to you killing their citizens and
will brand you a 'murderer,' which will make all the service NPCs
in the town raise prices for you. Furthermore, in some high level
towns, murderers may even be attacked on sight by the guards, or
disallowed to enter the town at all.
- Guilds have strict requirements about what you may not kill; if you
plan on joining a guild, you may want to find out what they are.
- Free Race servants of Sauron should avoid killing the Dark Lord's
minions in Mordor or they may find themselves greatly penalized.
When you kill an NPC that you shouldn't, that kill is put on your
record for about fifteen days. After that much time has passed, give or
take 8 hours, the record is expunged. Note that the definition of 'kill'
is to give the NPC a certain amount of injury. This means that if you
help someone else kill an NPC, your assistance will be counted.
To view NPC's race and alignment (needed to check against guild kill
restrictions) and community allegiance (needed to check what town will
potentially brand you as a 'murderer'), you should use the 'align' command.
Be aware, though, that if your awareness skill is low, the NPC alignment
you see may be inaccurate.
The 'align' command may also be used to view your current standing
with towns of Arda. Typing 'align me' will show you your current
reputation in major cities. Typing 'align me here', will show you your
current standing in the area you are currently in; this is useful for
smaller towns and villages that are not listed in 'align me'.
