Channels (General Help)
Here on the Two Towers, players have access to several communication
channels that we call 'comms'. New players start with access to just the
'newbiecomm', and later gain access to the OOC 'comm' and race-specific
'fr' or 'er'. Typing 'comms' will list you all the comms you have
available together with their aliases (shortcut characters).
To post a message on a comm, use its shortcut symbol followed by
your message. For example, typing:
] Hello!
Will result in all players tuned to the comm receiving something like:
] Newbiecomm Yourname: Hello!
Apart from regular messages, you can use emotes on comms as well.
To send an emote, use the comm shortcut symbol followed by ':' and
then by your emote message. For example:
]: smiles and greets everyone.
Will result in all players tuned to the comm receiving something like:
] Newbiecomm Yourname smiles and greets everyone.
Beside sending messages, all comms support three more commands:
- Displaying who is listening (tuned) to the comm -
You can check this at any time, by typing the comm full name with
the 'list' argument. For example: 'newbiecomm list'.
- Showing comm history -
You can check the last 40 messages sent on the comm by typing its
full name with the 'hist' argument. For example: 'newbiecomm hist'.
- Tuning into and out of the comm -
To start listening to the comm, type the comm full name with the
'on' argument. For example: 'newbiecomm on'. To stop listening,
use the 'off' argument.
Be aware that using comms will cost you endurance points; it is
a means to prevent spam abuse as well as a slight incentive to use
in-person communication (says) rather than sitting in one room and
endlessly chatting!
If you are not satisfied with the comm display style, you may
configure it slightly: there are some comm-related settings in the
'settings' menu and you can also change the default color of each
comm using the 'color' command.
